There has been a confirmation from Paula’s Choice that they do not test their products on animals or have others test them on their behalf. Their suppliers do not conduct animal testing, nor are they allowed to have their products tested on animals when the law requires it. Furthermore, they do not sell their products in stores in mainland China or any other country that requires animal testing.
Paula’s Choice meets our guidelines for being *cruelty-free*.
Update! Unilever announced in a press release that the company has acquired Paula’s Choice.
Paula’s Choice is soon to become part of Unilever, a corporation that does not believe in cruelty-free products, due to the fact that some of their other brands do not test on animals.
No matter which option you choose, you may support or boycott cruelty-free brands owned by non-cruelty-free parent companies. The answer to this question is neither right nor wrong. Although I encourage you to go with what feels right for you, I think it is important to disclose that Paula’s Choice will be owned by Unilever.
Are there any laws regarding animal testing in China?
It’s confirmed that Paula’s Choice does not sell its products in mainland China, so they will not be required to test on animals.
The FDA will no longer require animal testing for certain imported cosmetics beginning on May 1, 2021. The majority of cosmetics imported in 2022 will still need animal testing, however.
In cosmetics, mica adds a shimmering finish. Mineral mica is sometimes mined via child labor or in violation of human rights.
If the company does not disclose their mica mining policy, we can never be sure whether their mica is ethically sourced without child labor or forced labor.
Thus, I inquired about Paula’s Choice’s mica sourcing, and they responded that the mica has not been sourced through child labor.
Paula’s Choice is not completely vegan
In cosmetics, a vegan product or brand can refer either to an entire brand or a specific product.
Paula’s Choice does not offer all of its products as vegan. It does have some vegan-friendly products.
