[2021] Texas Roadhouse Vegan Options Texas Roadhouse Vegan Options

Being vegan at a steakhouse can be a real challenge. However, the best you can do is usually find a few vegan options and make something tasty. And this is the case at Texas Roadhouse too.

Below is what Texas Roadhouse has to offer vegans:

  • House Salad (no cheese, egg, or croutons)
  • Corn (no butter)
  • Veggies (no butter)
  • Steak Fries
  • Applesauce
  • House Peanuts
  • Sauteed Onions or Mushrooms
  • Drinks

To spice the vegetables, corn, and salad, I recommend bringing some level of nutritional yeast. To do that, you will probably want to order the Country Veg Plate, an order of four sides.

Why do you need to prepare rolls? What about green beans & baked potatoes? I will answer all those questions below!

The Best Vegan Options at Texas Roadhouse

As I was looking for vegan menu options at Texas Roadhouse, I received the following helpful, but somewhat disappointed, responses:

“We are sorry to inform you that we really do not offer vegan options. I always welcome the opportunity to share what you want, but there may be some options like salads with vinegar and oils, corn with no butter, vegetables sans butter, and applesauce. The dishes on our platters are delicious! You can pick four side dishes from our veggie plate which is optional. I wish I knew more good news!”

It’s true that Texas Roadhouse doesn’t have tons of vegan options, but you should expect that when you go to a steakhouse. (Maybe in the future they’ll have vegan seitan steaks!)

I have a tip for something you should bring to the restaurant before we dive into these specific vegan sides and the order process.

What’s the Secret to Making Texas Roadhouse Work for a Vegan

Make sure you bring your own nutritional yeast!

This vegan menu from Texas Roadhouse may seem a little sad. Although this tip is as simple as it sounds, I wanted to put it out front to help you when you read all the options.

The instructions are simple: Bring your own nutritional yeast.

You might be familiar with nutritional yeast from Texas Roadhouse, which is a cheesy, nutty seasoning that goes on the salad, veggies, corn, and possibly even other things you’ll get there.

As ordering the vegetables and corn at Texas Roadhouse without butter requires you to bring your own nutritional yeast, you can infuse some additional flavor into those dishes.

Can you bring in a seasoning other than that available on the menu? Staff members aren’t going to put up with you. They’re really sorry for you, which means they’re going to do their best to accommodate you.

Nooch makes this dinner possible. Use it liberally. And you’ll enjoy it like a vegan king.

In case you do not know where to buy nutritional yeast in the grocery store, here is an easy-to-follow guide.

Here are the vegan options:

  1. House Salad (No Egg, Cheese, or Croutons)

A vegan salad is possible at Texas Roadhouse if you avoid unnatural ingredients. The salad dressings include oil and vinegar.

Make sure not to consume these foods when you make the salad:

  1. Cheese
  2. Egg
  3. Croutons

Don’t let a chicken salad slip into your plate by accident.

  1. Corn (No Butter)

Texas Roadhouse’s “Buttered Corn” is one of its sides. But if you ask for it without butter, they’ll happily serve you.

A plain bowl of corn doesn’t have much to say. But if you have a nutritional yeast shaker, this dish will apparently be made better!

  1. Veggies (No Butter)

Typically, you’ll find this with broccoli and carrots. It may seem bland without butter, but it’s quite nutritious at the very least.

Just make sure you bring your own shaker of nutritional yeast to the restaurant.

These vegetables are awesome with Nooch.

  1. Steak Fries

French fries are generally a vegan staple at restaurants. I was initially told that Texas Roadhouse didn’t have vegan steak fries. In response, I was told that this is due to the fact that the fries are cooked in the same fryer as the chicken.

Sharing a fryer does not make the fries non-vegan to me. It’s a little gross, but otherwise I, too, can deal with it. That said, if this bothers you, you’ve been notified!

  1. Applesauce

Texas Roadhouse’s applesauce is vegan, and I love it much, as you could probably guess.

  1. House Peanuts (Free)

There are free peanuts at Texas Roadhouse when you walk in! And what’s more, these are vegan.

You’ll be able to slow down and do something while your family members are all eating steak because they’re still in the shells.

  1. Sauteed Onions or Mushrooms

Neither this nor any other combination of ingredients is meant to be consumed, but for some extra flavors, variety, and nutrition, you can add them to your corn or vegetables.

During my interaction with the Texas Roadhouse representative, he said: “Sauteed onions and mushrooms are vegan—just let your server know and they will cook them in a separate pan without butter.”

  1. Drinks

The representative I spoke to from Texas Roadhouse said “All of our cocktails should be vegan—except for the bloody mary.” The drinks menu seems to have several vegan options, including soft drinks, alcohol, and margaritas.

Country Veg Plate (Veggie Plate)

In fact, since it isn’t actually a separate meal, you can choose 4 sides when ordering the Country Veg Plate.

It is likely that you would choose the sides since the main vegan options are available at Texas Roadhouse.

Then what about…?

Some vegan items are not on the vegan menu at Texas Roadhouse. In fact, several other items on the vegan menu look vegan, but aren’t:

  • Green beans (contains bacon)
  • Cooked potatoes (covered with bacon grease)
  • Rolls (containing egg in the recipe and brushed on with butter)
  • Seasoned rice (contains chicken broth)
  • Fried pickles (made with egg in the batter)
  • See below for the full details.

Unfortunately, there are no vegan options at Texas Roadhouse. Their customer service response said, “Unfortunately, we do not have any vegan options.” I thought that was a bit exaggerated, but still.

It would be great if they had more clearly labeled options that were vegan-friendly!
